25/02/2007 Open House and Artists’ Day, London, November
In November, professional artists from France, the UK, Sweden, Germany and the US, all part of the Renewal Arts Network met at the Initiatives of Change Centre, London for a day to discuss issues which they have on their minds as artists and the challenges they face in an often hard-nosed commercial world with its superficial view of art.
There was a real sharing of ideas and experiences and everyone felt it had been a very affirming and encouraging day. The following day some forty members of the Renewal Arts Network and friends gathered for an occasion billed as &lsquoDiscovering the RA Experience’.
There was an interactive workshop on Indian Kathak Dancing lead by Jasmine Lail from the Nottingham dance group Manushi. It was followed by a showing of the film &lsquoOne Word of Truth&rsquo, inspired by Alexander Solzhenitsyn&rsquos Nobel Prize speech: a powerful exposition of the power of art in overcoming untruth, initiating a stimulating discussion.
Sarah de Nordwall and her Bards School then presented songs and poetry and Augusto Cabrera gave a fascinating demonstration of the art of masks.
The day finished with contributions from Chris Channer and Tim Firth .
A great day! More planned for 2007.
